We're all just human beans....

It's all too easy to put people on a pedestal. To get star struck in the presence of someone who you admire for their talents or for the skills you suppose they must have to be in their position.

I know I have long suffered from this.

It's been a steep learning curve for me. Realising that no matter the person's journey to get to where they are today, how much power they have (or seem to have), that they are just another human being.

No better. No worse.

Just different.

"There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic" Anais Nin

Each of us on a journey. A journey which must by necessity intersect and interact with those around us.

Call me late to the party but I'm beginning to see that even the most onto-it, switched on, big business people I see or spend time with on a daily basis are all facing their own challenges. Whether externally so that those around them can observe their struggles in their daily lives or whether they do so internally with their own private demons that no-one sees but the battle still rages inside them.

There's no guarantee that a large paycheck = a person who has it all together and knows all there is to know about the world going round.

They might be amazing at winning clients and delivering quality work yet terrible at managing their own staff.

They might be a great ideas person but be totally useless at keeping on top of their admin to keep the business ticking over.

They might be an over-achiever and strive for absolute perfection in everything they do, but at the cost of their home life, their families and even their health.

"Truth is, I'll never know all there is to know about you just as you will never know all there is to know about me. Humans are by nature too complicated to be understood fully. So, we can choose either to approach our fellow human beings with suspicion or to approach them with an open mind, a dash of optimism and a great deal of candour". Tom Hanks

I look at the people I am surrounded by lately and I am making a deliberate choice....choosing NOT to be overawed, overwhelmed when it's all too easy to listen to the self talk that says 'what can little old me...only fully qualified for 5 years....what can I possibly offer this group of experienced accounting professionals?'

Instead I'm choosing to believe in myself and that I do bring unique skills and talents to this role, to this company. I may not (definitely won't!) do the job the same way as the person before me, but I will bring a fresh perspective, and an ability to add value in different ways.

I am choosing to remind myself of this every day at the moment, especially when the learning curve seems too much and too overwhelming, and I could easily wallow in the 'what have I really got to offer these brilliant minds?'

My skills and talents might be different, but they are equally as valuable.

And I am...made for such a time as this. Esther 4:14

i read a quote once (trying to rack my brain)... that often we're trying to compare ourselves to someones highlight reel... instead of their real life - or something like that - that often we dont know the cost someone has paid to "be" who they are and get to where they are at, and that we should embrace our own journey... ps looks like you guys had an amazing time away! stunning photos!

blessings, claire

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best - Henry Van Dyke. Go you x
