Latest happenings...

So.......we had gained three kids to stay Saturday night while their mum and dad went away to Greytown for the night on the same deal that we did back in June (see here for our Once in a few thousand nights adventure). When we mentioned to them we were going away for the first time in 7 years without the kids, they said 'try 10 years then' as their oldest is 10, and they have 2 other kids who are Noah and Mylo's age. So when the same deal came up again on Treat Me, we told them to go for it and that we'd have their kids for the night.

The kids came laden with goodies including an amazing gluten free chocolate torte that their 10 year old had baked, and Noah and their middle boy went off to a birthday party for a couple of hours so we only had 3 kids to start with which eased us into it nicely.

We had some awesome fun playing Sleeping Queens and Doodle Dice before Giuseppe turned up to open his pizza kitchen and take orders for everyone's build-your-own pizzas.

Raspberry and lemonade fizz icecream in cones was served up for the second course before rounding off things with a banana, pineapple and marshmallow fondue.

And in other news...it looks like I might have (somewhat accidentally) volunteered my services as the new Treasurer on the Board of Trustees for our afterschool and holiday programme trust at school. And fingers crossed I may have managed to rope my great buddy Jackie in to do the accounts for it too! Which is kinda funny when I think back to my farewell speech for her when she left work a month before I did earlier this year, I said I sure hoped it wouldn't be the last time we worked together, and wouldn't it be funny if it came to pass again so soon.

This weekend, in between the fun and busyness I found myself taking a few quiet moments now and again to reflect on the blessings we have been given. It is all too easy to travel blindly and blithely through the days of our lives - with the repetitive monotony allowing the days to blur from one into the next without taking any time to stop and appreciate all the blessings in our lives. Love, family, health, friends, freedom, shelter. Take away any one of these things and there's a massive sense of loss. And I was reminded of that old hymn:

'Count your blessings
name them one by one'

Our blessings ARE many.

Many.
