People...do me a favour!

OK so us bloggy people, we love to share the love right?

We love reading other posts. And we love commenting on those that really resonate with us.

We love to build relationships with other lovely people out there. Whether they're in our neighbourhood, our country or in a completely different time zone, it's so amazing reading these slices of life, these insights, and if we're lucky we can actually get to know a person becoming virtual friends, and sometimes if we are REALLY lucky, we might even get to be friends in real life too.

That's a big reason about why we blog right? Well at least it is for me.

But....

There are so many people I want to be able to reply back to from comments left on my blog to keep a conversation going with, and yet I can't. At least, not yet. But I'm hoping after this post I can convince some of you to make a small change for the good!

And you, haven't you wondered whether there is a better way to keep in contact with your readers than simply reading comments and that being the end of it?

Well there is!

If you're on Blogger, there are two quick fixes which guarantee you can keep in better comment with your readers and they, in turn, with you. I'm not totally sure about Wordpress but I'm guessing it's pretty similar?

All you need to do is change a couple of settings and voila! you'll be sorted. I recently helped Remaliah from Lily & Georgie set this up and it got me to thinking surely someone else out there might appreciate knowing how to do this if they don't already.

Part 1: receiving comments by email
I receive all my comments by email. It makes it so much easier to respond directly to people's comments.

If you don't have this functionality already, here's where you change it:

Go to your Blog Design page and then to Settings

Then choose the mobile and sub-page option

On this page you need to type your email address that you wish to receive comments to in the comment notification box.

Now you're all set up to receive comments by email rather than just on your blog page, and this makes it infinitely easier to respond straight back to your readers via email. But if, and only if, they have also done part 2 below.

Part 2: adding your email to your Blogger profile
If you add your email address to your profile, when you make a comment on someone's post, they'll be able to reply straight back to you via email. If you don't have your email added, when that person hits reply on the email, your email address comes up as noreply-comment@blogger.com which is no help to anyone and the conversation ends there!

So here's where you make the change:

From your blog home page, click on your profile. It should take you to a page that looks like this

Note how my profile says that you can contact me via email. This is because I have done the next step. Click on edit profile in the top right hand corner.

Then add your email address into the email address box.

This doesn't have to be the same email address as the one you use to login to Blogger (although mine is). It can be any other personal email address (but one that you will be checking for bloggy replies).

So peeps, just a small favour but one which will mean I can reply to let you know how much your comments mean to me, and you can do the same with all your lovely commenters.

If you have any questions on how to do this, please just email me at the address you can see in the screenshots and I'll be more than happy to help you through it.

Here's to a brighter, more connected future!

Good on you Meg!
Lots of people don't even realise this, which certainly makes it hard to reply to them!!

Awesome - I get so frustrated when people ask me questions on my blog and I have no way of answering them back (other than commenting back on my blog and hoping they see it!).

hey this is awesome, being a relatively new blogger I had no idea I could do this!

Have updated my profile accordingly :-)
