What he's loving

Lately this 4 year old

has been loving:

Star wars
Return of the Jedi is by far his favourite of the three movies. This then turns into lightsaber fights with daddy, and the latest sticker chart reward goal was a lightsaber of his own, he's had to save up for 20 stickers so it's been a few weeks in the making. After scoring a goal today in football (see below), that was the last one all sewn up. Up until now the iPod Lightsaber application (complete with appropriate noises) has been a good alternative for Jedi fights.

Buttons
Being able to do his own buttons up, and it's really not that long since I was wondering when he'd ever figure it out! All it took was having his buddy Beck here for a sleepover. When he saw Beck doing his own pyjama buttons up, that was all the motivation he needed to do it himself. It was almost worth the very early start the following morning (5:30am) when two excited boys couldn't bear to sleep any longer. Thanks to Mark for picking up that early shift! Oh and we've done our buttons ourselves every night since!

This person has a jetpack on and rocket fire coming out.

Football
Becoming a footballer, getting into it new boots n all. He was WELL disappointed when the first game got cancelled with bad weather last weekend. Not so this weekend. Off he went. And was the only person in his team to score a goal today - Go Noah! No hand holding required from Daddy this year, a far cry from the timid three year old who made his first foray into football this time last year. What a difference a year makes.

 

Toy Story Yahtzee
Noah received this game for his birthday. And its a great way to introduce kids to the classic game. Woody is the 'wild dice' so he counts towards any other character you're trying to get, and if you roll Lotso (the baddie), you can't use that dice for the rest of that turn. You get three rolls to get as many of the same character as possible, and then put your token on how many you scored, one through five). It's a great quick game as you only get five turns (one to try and get each character) x 3 rolls per turn. And it's as good with two players as it is with three or four. Counting up your points at the end is really good practice for number skills, particularly as the score rarely gets above twenty. A great Christmas or birthday present if you're caught short for ideas!

Sleepovers
Next week he gets to have another friend for a sleepover (Mum & Dad better prepare themselves for another early start). That'll be three sleepovers in about six weeks. Which equates to 3 pre-6am Sunday mornings for us....yawning and extra coffees for us on these days! But he LOVES it and that's the main thing!

Fireworks

And in two weeks' time, we're having a very special one-on-two night with Noah for Guy Fawkes - yay it's a Friday night this year, so no worries about staying up a bit later either.

We're gonna make a special night of it and have takeaway New York style pizza from Wholly Bagels, get a few sparklers (and maybe a rocket or two) in - we don't think Noah has ever seen fireworks up close so that'll be interesting! Then we'll head upstairs to our room to watch the fireworks on display from the main Wellington show at 9pm - it runs for 15 mins and we can only see the really tall circular ones but it'll still be a blast....(ha ha, I wrote that and then realised it actually will be...a blast!). I'm already looking forward to it, can you tell?!
