The Adventures of Wheelie Bag {Penny Scallan Review and Giveaway}

Hi, my name is Wheelie Bag and this is my story.

Penny Scallan Wheelie Bag

I’d been waiting my whole life for this moment. The moment where I could say I truly belonged to someone. I’d been waiting to shake off the thought of being just another bag sitting waiting, lonely in a warehouse, waiting to become a loved and useful member of a family.

Penny Scallan Wheelie Bag in golden light

I’ll never forget the day I got the call-up from Penny Scallan Design. I was so darn excited to find out which family I was going to serve. But I had a long journey ahead of me, over the seas and through the postal system. It was a dark journey, I couldn’t see much from inside my packaging but I could hear and smell all manner of interesting things along the way, like the distinct smell of airplane fuel, and the loud music from inside the courier van before I eventually landed on the front porch of a house somewhere in Wellington, NZ. I sat on the porch for the rest of the day waiting for the family to get home, wondering what they would be like. Would they love me and use me all the time, seeing how useful I could be, or would I be just another accessory in the baggage department to be thrown in the cupboard and forgotten about?

I needn’t have worried. They were cries of excitement as I was drawn out of the packaging. I was immediately walked up and down the hallway and lounge with cries of ‘my turn’ ‘no my turn’ for the next half an hour. There was plotting and planning about what they could put inside me, which ranged from soft toys to cars and trucks, and even my friend Wet Pack who came along for the journey took a turn being carried around. Of course it was fun playing with the children, but I was ready for a bigger challenge.

And within a few days, I had my first real assignment. I was so excited. The family were going away for a few days over the Easter break. I wondered what they might use me for, maybe to carry some of the children’s clothes or toiletries? I waited to find out. The night before their trip, I found myself being opened on the floor of the lounge, and the next thing you know all manner of lovely Easter treats were being placed carefully inside. I decided this was way more fun than carrying clothes, and it was all I could do not to steal a few mini eggs for myself when they weren’t looking. But being a Wheelie Bag I took my assignment very seriously, and I instead carried them safely to our destination trying not to be overcome by the delicious smell of chocolate radiating from my insides.

When we arrived, the littlest member of the family immediately took me straight up the hallway to show me around their great-grandma’s house, and once emptied of my contents I found myself privileged enough to sleep in the boys’ room with them, the sound of their soft breathing through the dark night so relaxing and peaceful, that I found myself easily nodding off into the deepest of slumbers.

While we were away, I overhead the family talking about a big adventure they have coming up, a month away in England in October. They talked about how handy my friend Wet Pack and I will be for the children to use as carry-on luggage for the plane, and I felt myself glowing with pride at the thought of being such an important part of making their journey a success.

And I realised at that very moment that my search had come to an end, and I'd finally found my place in the world. It was the happiest moment of my life.

But before I finish my story...I must tell you about this friend I have. He's another Wheelie Bag just like me, who is desperate for the opportunity to find a family that will love him and find him just as useful as mine have. And if you've been reading my story, just think.....that could very well be you!

All you have to do is comment on this post, and you could win your very own Wheelie Bag. I know that he's out there, just waiting to see which awesome family he'll be joining very, very soon.

The giveaway is open for 1 week, and the winner of the Wheelie Bag will be drawn by random.org and announced on Monday 8th April at 7am.

And me, well I believe I might have just discovered my next assignment. Transporting a delicate antique Japanese tea set back to Wellington today. I can't wait!
